On the Bristol Channel

Waverley's passage south from Glasgow was prolonged by rough weather, the steamer having to seek shelter in Fishguard Bay for nearly two days.   Fortunately the Balmoral was able to stand in for her on Thursday 26 May and the two ships sailed together for about 20 minutes that evening before they both went their separate ways.  The paddler took up her timetable on Friday but on Saturday the poor weather returned and she spent the day in Newport Docks.   She was able to resume service on Sunday, however.
