HLF approves grant for Completion Phase of Heritage Rebuild

On 17 May 2002, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) announced their approval of grant to enable the Completion Phase of the Heritage Rebuild to go ahead. This will encompass all work deferred from Phase 1, including the installation of a bow rudder.

Partnership funding is also coming from Glasgow City Council and the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society.

Tenders will be invited for the execution of the works. Award of the contract is planned for October 2002 allowing the Waverley to proceed to the successful shipyard at the conclusion of her operating season. The destination of Waverley's sailing on October 14 and the choice of vessel for the Bristol Channel sailings on October 18 to 21 will depend on this decision.

Completion of the work is programmed for early June 2003, allowing the paddler to re-enter service in mid-June.
