Progress
Report December 2001
Brian Waters, designer and constructor, writes ...
I seem to have been somewhat remiss in bringing
everyone up-to-date. In truth, things are progressing steadily
with most items being near to completion but not yet qualifying
for ticking off the work list. Here is a summary of what has been
going on:-
- Boiler, engine and condenser lowered into hull at
Acorn Shipyard, the boiler and engine having been tested
successfully.
- The original balanced rudder was replaced by a
more conventional rudder while drydocked at Lemon's
Boatyard, this requiring a more powerful steering ram -
to be fitted soon.
- Engine room pipework now at an advanced stage,
with steam and water connections being fitted between
boiler, engine, condenser, hotwell and various pumps.
- Fuel and water tanks installed and largely piped
up.
- Engine control levers completed, ready for
fitting in wheelhouse.
- Boiler and engine casing under construction,
shortly to be erected complete with funnel, ventilator
cowls and skylight.
- Paddle wheel bearings and seals overhauled and
lubrication oil boxes made and fitted to paddle boxes.
