Monarch - A New Paddle Steamer

Update October 2000

With so much publicity I am glad to to be able to say that things are proceeding much now on the technical side.

The burner has been run up, and should go when a problem with the fuel solenoid has been fixed - hopefully today (17.10.00). That means that the boiler can be steamed for the first time.

The engine looks like a paddle engine now with both connecting rods in place and the valve motion ready to fit.

The recent rainstorms have not helped. Luckily I painted the bilges out during the summer and things are not going rusty in that department. This coming week I am fitting and plumbing in the fuel tanks, so this area of the bottom will probably not be painted properly again for some while.

Here are a couple more pictures. This is my favourite, showing my family standing on the foredeck after I had rigged the mast, because it shows her lines nicely.
