Work in the engine room

Report and pictures by David Elms

22nd May. Some days ago the final sections of main engine exhaust were fabricated, and work started on the installation of the new pipe work which has been away for testing and cleaning. The exhausts have since been
completed and lagged. The manufacture and fitting of new floor plates has also begun, and the generator exhausts have been repaired and reinstated.

Yesterday (21st May) the generators were run and the air tanks charged, later in the evening the port main engine was test run for the first time since leaving Denmark. This evening the starboard main engine was also fired up.
Tomorrow should see the couplings fitted between engines and gearboxes, and the Grenaas tested under their working conditions for the first time.

The motor vessel had been due to sail in service from Glasgow to Oban on 23rd May and carry out a full weekend of cruises in the Western Isles.   Unfortunately the delays in completing the installation and commissioning of the new Grenaa engines led to the cancellation of these sailings.
